Montrose, PA Artesian Water Well
Hi all! I just got back from my second visit to the Montrose Artesian Spring Water well. Located along the PA-NY border (roughly 15-20 miles south of Binghamton), surrounded by rolling hills, lush woodlands and many creeks. There’s a wonderful state park only 10 min away, Salt Spring State Park. There’s a incredible waterfall with a swimming hole woven between the scenic hiking trails. It’s fairly easy to get to (aside from a few dirt roads). This is a free to use, publicly maintained spring. The PA Dept of Health does not test this water.
The spring is easy to spot as it’s covered by a white metal shed. You can pull right up to it, with space for multiple cars safely parked. It hasn’t been too busy on my two trips. If I remember correctly, the water comes from a metal sprig but is possibly fed from a PVC pipe but not totally sure (will report back next time). There’s a large metal grate that sits above a drainage port which makes filling any container easy. I use 5gal & 3gal glass carboys which is probably the most difficult to fill. The grate keeps the glass containers steady and fairly level. The area is well kept and there’s even a trash bag *PLEASE KEEP AREA CLEAN.*
Now for the water, it tastes excellent. The water is hard so it has a slight mineral flavor that’s leaning towards a crisp flavor. I have NOT tested this water but plan to (will report back). It’s clear as glass and odorless. I drank about 6gal from my first trip without incidence. I have about twice that so should last 3-4 wks. That about covers it. If you have any questions please ask.
