Description

This spring was family-owned and then given to the town of Buckfield on the premise that everyone would be able to have access to it. It’s kept up nicely and is in good shape. A small parking area is available right in front of the spring and some flat stones have been set up so that you can access the spring easier. The spring itself has been redirected using PVC pipes. (I know some people may not be into that, so I’m mentioning it.) The water is wonderfully cold and sweet! Great quality!

This Spring is between the two most powerful and gem rich mines in the world. The Mt. Mica mine has produced abundant gem tourmaline of every color. The Bennet Quarry on the other side of the spring produced a 52 Lb Morganite Crystal(Pink Emerald). The water that comes through is spring probably has a high lithium content and is programmed by some of the most profound gemstones on earth. If you set an intention, the water will respond to it.

This is super pure energized water. It flows thru the Mountains of crystal mines(think about this), It’s amazing! If you stored it in copper it would be called a battery. At sunset the place looks magic. Here is the Mineral list for the area :
Albite Evansite Manganocolumbite Rhodochrosite

  1. Drove 2 1/2 hours to this spring and it was definitely worth it!  The taste is sweet and
clear and it tested at a TDS of 11 on my meter.  Sunday is a very busy day at the spring: got there at 11:30 am, there were 4 cars ahead of me and it was 30 minutes before I could get my water, and when I left there were 4 cars behind me.  The view from the spring is pretty spectacular.

  2. …so you used my Paris Hill Spring comment as the Cooper Springs description. I'm honored and its all true. You can't stop the copper top. This place is MAGIC! Be there for sunset and you will never forget it.

  3. Same spring as Mt Mica also listed. Cooper is the official name on the sign. Super High Energized water with tons of minerals. See the complete list on other review. Universal Solvent flowing thru precious gems. Nearly 4 hours each way and I will keep coming back to this powerful source with a big smile on my face:)

  4. The water flow is so fast that the PVC tubing makes little to no difference. Plastic mainly leaches when warm water sits for extended periods of time in it (like commercial bottled water). The spring is ice cold and fast running!

  5. Head through the scenic lake region, up into the mountains, above the clouds, up & down winding back roads between rustic South Paris & Norway. The area is gorgeous, nestled between the valleys of Streaked Mountain and Mt. Mica, situated near farms. The cows across the street are cool to check out and if you’re there early during the spring/summer, check out Streaked Mountain for a great hike.

Cooper Spring is THE best spring water I have had without a doubt, by a long shot. The spring has been active since the early 1800s, when the area was settled. This spring has a lot of history. The spring was used by travelers, settlers, farmers and locals. Many, many people come to get water from here. I have been here multiple times and will always see folk coming & going during the day. I have met some really kind and interesting people here. Show up with a smile & kindness because you never know who you will meet or what opportunities await with them. However, if you go at nighttime, it is very quiet. Cooper Spring at night is one of the most peaceful places I have been to. The running water, insects/wildlife, the only source of light coming from the stars above; the area itself feels still but the energy radiates from that spring! Great place to meditate and clear your mind.

Let’s start with location: all great spring water comes from deep within the ground, ideally from the mountains. Higher elevation means cooler temps, less pollution, and thus fewer chances of the bad kind of bacterial growth. One unique aspect about this spring is the fact that the water flows through one of highest concentration of gemstone & minerals. Mt. Mica is a famous rockhounding area that even has gemstone ONLY found at THIS SITE. Why is this so special? Minerals are essential to our health, so when the water runs through these materials, small amounts leech into the water and benefit our health in many aspects. It is even believed that some of these minerals/gemstone “charge” the water with positive energy. Cooper Spring is in a relatively shady area, so the water isn’t sitting under the sun all day. The area is well kept, trash free and easily accessible. There is parking on both sides of the road, although the side of the spring has much more room. While I wouldn’t say it is a busy road, there is enough traffic to be wary of your surroundings, and it is a narrow back road that some folk speed down. There is plenty room for your jugs along the spring. There is a donation box, which I recommend sparing a few bucks every once in a while. The funds go towards upkeep, maintenance, and water testing. All of which are worthy causes for my funds to go towards. There is a sign that states the water is regularly tested by the state/county.

As for the water, Cooper Spring is my GOLD STANDARD for water. It’s even better tasting & more hydrating than Mountain Valley Spring water. Seriously, I have visited over 30 different springs in the past year, and only 3-5 come close to the quality here at Cooper. The flow has always been heavy so there’s never a worry about stagnant water. More flow, the less chance of bacterial growth. The temperature has always been ice cold and crisp, talk about refreshing! I love putting my head under the flow when it’s a hot day out. The flavor of the water is pure but has character from the mineral content. It is sooo tasty that I could tell you which water it is from a blindfold test. The clarity is crystal clear. I have never experienced cloudy water or floaters in any of the jugs/bottles from the numerous times I have been here (I have probably drank over 30 gals by now). I have never gotten sick and I usually don’t boil this water (unless I am cooking or making tea/coffee). In fact, this water has improved my health noticeably. The hydrating abilities from the water should not be underestimated. It’s pretty crazy, when I drink bottled water after a run I have to drink a lot or I get a headache but with this water I just need half a cup and my body responds well. I am not too sure about the reported healing effects of this water but I would not be surprised. Water, next to air, is THE most important thing for our bodies. Make the change to this spring water and you won’t regret it! I would highly recommend using glass containers such as 3gal carboys (or 5gal if you’re strong enough). Glass is the safest material to drink from and is harder for bacteria to grow on (compared to plastics). I hope to see some fellow hydrophiles out there! I will certainly be back & hope to get water from this spring for the rest of my life. Thank you so much to the team over at Oxford Soil & Water Conservation District. You do a phenomenal job. THIS is a perfect example of what our local government should be focusing on because these things improve the people’s lives significantly. Much love!!

  6. We love this spring. The water tastes amazing. There’s also a farm just up the street that has eggs and yummy bread. There’s little parking here is that’s tough. It’s not well maintained in the winter at all. We went today and it wasn’t safe for me to get water. I was bummed. We’ll have to wait for spring.

  7. Just visited this spring. Moved nearby and decided to try this spring out. You will NOT be disappointed. If you put the GPS coordinates into your gps and go, it will bring you directly to it. Clear, fast flowing, and ice cold. I asked a local how this water was and he said “it is one of the best in the state”. True gem, and plan to harvest all of my water from here. Filled up a 5 gallon jug in less than 30 seconds. I hope you can try it!

  8. Cooper Spring is owned and operated by Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District. The water is tested on a monthly basis and in the past year improvements to the spring have been made. This work has been paid for with the monies received from the donation box at the spring. For a good history of the Cooper Spring you can read the recent book published by Beverly Shaw of West Paris. Please feel free to contact us with comments or questions.

How to Collect Spring Water

Drinking pure spring water is one of the most important things we can do for our health. Our bodies are over 99% water at the molecular level, so water affects every aspect of our biology. Yet, not all water is created equal. Almost all the bottled spring water available is pasteurized for shelf stability, which neutralizes many of the powerful health benefits such as increased hydrogen, healthy probiotics, and crystalline structure. For more about why unprocessed spring water is the best water to drink, read this.

The best way to guarantee you are getting real unprocessed spring water is to collect it yourself. This is a short and simple guide filled with information about how to gather spring water. We will cover how to find a spring, how to collect the water, how to honor the spring, how to store the water properly and other tips.

FindASpring.org is the best resource for locating a spring near you. However, not all springs are on the map. First, check the map to see if there is a spring in your local area. If there is, look at the reviews and comments. Has anyone shared helpful information about flow rate or posted a water test result? Is the spring in a pristine area? Do a bit of research and make sure the spring is safe to drink from. If you have any doubt about the purity, don’t risk it and get a water test, HERE. If you don’t see a spring on the map in your area, there still might be some that aren’t listed yet. First, ask the older generation who have lived in your area a long time if they know. You can also ask people in your community who might already get spring water such as people at a health food store or at a farmers market. Another great option is to view A US forest service map, where many springs have been marked. You can view these maps through the Gaia GPS or All Trails hiking apps on your phone. The map overlay you want is USGS Topo. Not all are easily accessible or ideal for drinking, but some are and it can be a fun adventure to find them. We have found over half a dozen great springs this way.

Once you’ve found your spring, figure out how you are going to gather the water. Is it right on the side of the road and easy to access or do you have to hike to it? We recommend storing spring water in glass instead of plastic to preserve the purity of the water. It is better for the environment, your body, and the water. Even BPA free plastic has toxic chemicals that can leach into water and cause health issues. If you do want to use plastic for safety reasons when filling at the spring, we recommend transferring the water to glass as soon as possible. FindASpring is sponsored by Alive Waters, which offers beautiful reusable glass. They have a 2.5 gallon option, which is a convenient size for carrying that isn’t too heavy. They also sell handles that you can use to transport the jugs even more easily. If you have to hike to access the spring, we recommend putting the water jugs into an extra large backpack to hike the water out with ease. We use Osprey packs that hold 2 jugs each. You can also use a wheelbarrow or even a stroller depending on how easy a walk it is.

When you get to the spring, remember to first give back before you take. Springs are considered sacred in indigenous cultures around the world for their life giving water and also as a connection to the inner earth. A powerful and simple way to give back is to clean up. Is there any trash that needs to be collected? Could you move any dead leaves or sticks to improve the flow rate? Show up in service. Some other wonderful ways to give is with a moment of expressing verbal gratitude, singing songs to the water, offering the water an ethically sourced crystal, a feather, or some other physical gift. Flowers are a popular and beautiful thing to offer, but please be careful to source organic ones as most flowers from the store are sprayed with pesticides and can be toxic to put near a spring. Also, flowers can attract bugs as they decay, so it can be best to offer them to the flowing water directly or a little downstream from the spring head.

When gathering the water, fill the jug as close to the spring head as possible, never gather downstream. Be very careful as wet glass is extremely slippery. Make sure the lid is securely fastened. When transporting the spring water home, the jugs can sometimes slide around the car. Secure them in place or wrap them with towels or something so they don’t crash into each other.

How you store your spring water is essential. It is not pasteurized like spring water from the store, so it will start growing algae if left in direct sunlight. This is good because it means it’s alive! If the water you drink can’t even support the most basic life forms, how do you think it will support your body? Store your water in a cool, dark place such as a dark corner, pantry or closet. The fridge is ideal if you have room. Some people prefer to filter their water through a Berkey filter before drinking, but if the spring is pure, it’s not necessary. We drink our spring water completely unfiltered.

How long the water stays good for depends on how cold a temperature it’s stored at. Spring water is best fresh. We personally do not prefer to drink spring water past 2 weeks old. However, we know other people that will drink it at a month old. It’s great to get in a rhythm where you know how long the water lasts you and put your collection day on the calendar in advance.

I believe that water is calling us to reconnect with her in the deepest way, to gather our own water. Just like our ancestors did. Our ancestors didn’t have fancy water machines. They also didn’t create villages or settle where there was no water. Water was revered as the center of the community and the nodal point around which life could spiral out and take root.

Here’s to restoring the sacred connection with the waters of life.
