Current capacity is 850 truckloads (6600 gallons each) per month, but current usage is only about 100 truckloads per month.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that all bottled water be labeled for magnesium content. Magnesium helps prevent heart attacks and strokes, and is natural in all ground water. Hundreds of Medical Journal articles about magnesium in water are at: www.MgWater.com Average magnesium content in bottled water outside the US is about 25 mg per liter, but inside the US the average bottled water contains about 3 mg per liter. The Adobe Springs contain 110 mg of magnesium per liter, and Tastes Great! Adobe Springs water can supply all the magnesium lacking in the average consumers’ diet. The Adobe Springs flow at over 72 Million gallons per annum, and has FREE SPIGOTS open 24/7 (closed for maintenance on Saturdays 10-4). I watched all ten parts to the video and it doesn’t mention anything about spring water being accessible by tap. Sounds interesting, but don’t know what exactly your talking about. If you have more information on this, please advise!
Debbie, I can’t stand your trolling spam on this site. Every spring I look into, I have to go through all your copy-paste crap to sell some filter. 5 different springs and every single one you put the same stuff over and over. Sell your crap somewhere else. People are looking for information about the spring they select. They don’t want poser-advertisements from you.
MODERATOR: WHERE ARE YOU!!
Is it easy to find the source? Is it allowed? When I called the man mentioned in the link, he told me the same as Lily mentioned, that it comes out UV filtered.
Lilly, if you go directly to the source this water is pure as life – it probably does get filtered by 7UP after they collect it. I am cruising up today in order to collect 10 gallons…
We brought back some water today. Following are the results from home tests: TDS 336ppm, pH (meter) 9.01, Chlorine 0, GH (Mg, Ca) 300+, KH (carbonate) 300+. Last two results were off the charts
In my limited testings(which includes structuring of the water), this spring water tied Headwaters(of the Sacramento River), but for different reasons. It is very relaxing. The owners told me to keep it out of direct sunlight. In addition, I directly tested plastic(usually Crystal Geyser bottles) to glass, and it was no comparison in favor of the glass(both using spring water from the same spot of the spring).
In winter, the Adobe Springs spigot may freeze at night, and not thaw out until Noon! So in winter, I recommend coming after Noon, to avoid a frozen spigot.
We were up there today 04/22 and while it was quite a drive we met several friendly strangers getting water. One was a rancher who said he’s come by every week for 15 years and that this water is truly special. The road was a little flooded but we just parked on the side of the road and crossed over. This spring is an amazing gift to the public.
According to the website listed above, this water is pumped, filtered, and treated with UV. Doesn't seem like the kind of spring usually recommended by Vitalis. I am new to this site, so I would appreciate any feedback. Much gratitude 🙂
It doesn’t look filtered but one never knows. It’s a natural spring that’s been tapped. The untapped water runs directly into another body of water along the spring
Drive there using gps which was accurate. Does come up quickly but was such a fun switchback road with beautiful oaks. Water tastes great. Haven’t done any testing myself but relying on this site for accurate information.
Just moved to the Bay Area from Frederick, MD where I lived within .5 miles of a great natural spring. I don’t have a car but still would love to stock up on some of this water from Noah’s Spring. Please contact me if you have a car and are willing to take me with you. I live in downtown San Jose. lgrube3(at)gmail.com is my email address. Thanks!
Easy to miss but awesome spring If you are driving from the 5 (I like the cool windy deserted back road approach personally) you can drive past the UV filtered one and go west about 1/2 a mile down the road to get “Free Construction Water” There are two tap options at this spot… I like the fat pipe with the secret valve behind it 🙂 Wish i could post my pics but they are too large :-/
Does anyone carpool from the San Jose area? I’m thinking of taking my first trip to get some water, and I would like to go with someone who knows the location and how to collect the water. Thanks! whodatgrl@yahoo.com
My husband and I lived downstream from this spring, and his family settled these hills to ranch. The water is good. The tap is right next to the road (just cross a little creek and park), and we had to use it 3 months of the year for our home, as do many other families in this rural canyon. Water table was fine (up and down the canyon) until this guy started pulling water our by the truck load. It’s legal, but shouldn’t be, it’s high desert and water is precious. Beautiful drive though, and the water is cold and delicious.
Yeah about 0.5 miles east of the official spring (which has a 19000 sign next to it and a few others) the one half mile East has one sign saying free construction water and actually two spigots… I reccommmend using the fat one, the valve is behind the spigot.
Yes..I talked to Paul and he told me there is another “tap” just up the road. He has to label it “construction”. The only difference is it’s not gone through the UV. Either way. I’ve been up to the spring 4 times already. I have turned on MANY people to this water. I cook with it, brush my teeth with it. Short of showering. Paul is a great guy and for him to let the public have this water for free is simply wonderful .
this seems like the most promising spring within my 2-hour radius. i’m thinking about heading over soon to taste and collect. anyone want to carpool? my schedule is pretty flexible (i can maneuver most days apart from wednesdays and fridays) and i’ll be heading over from san jose.

We just went to the spring for the first time yesterday and were so excited to find it. Coming over Mt. Hamilton we ended up driving past it twenty miles then had to double back. Coming from the Patterson way there are two white arrows spray painted on rocks just before you make a left hand turn into the spring area — that made it easier to find because otherwise we weren’t sure what we were looking for. The white cubic structure (a tank or some sort?) is a good landmark for the spring.
The water tastes great and I am so excited to have a reliable source of water that has the nutrients water is meant to have. The UV treatment doesn’t bother me so much and I like that this water has been tested and is of the quality that someone would bottle it and sell it.
Can someone please explain where the “Construction” spring location is? I looked for it about 0.5 miles east of the main spring, however, I didn’t have any luck. Thank you!
First off if you are coming from SJ I think going over Mount Hamilton is faster. I went both ways and found the Mount Hamilton route better but it is extremely windy and not safe during winter months. Now to the water. It does taste really good but only when cooled at home. There is a spout just like a home water faucet with threads. I recommend coming with a hose attachment to make filling easier. So as others have said the water is fed through ultraviolet light and held in tanks near the source. If you take water and expose it to the sun it would also do the same thing. I don’t see it bad necessarily but it is not living water. Good news is the water is not filtered or ozonated; that is done by the bottlers after they collect the water, and it is federal law to do so. One nice thing about the water is it stays clean over much longer time than other spring waters I’ve collected. So overall I like the taste and will go back to this source even with the slight manipulation done.
how long does this water stay good for?, how can you extend the life? This will be my first time at the spring, so I don’t know the procedures, Any tips? also I am going to be driving up there from downtown San Jose soon to check it out if anyone wants to come with me would be great! I have an SUV so we bring back lots of water 🙂
Robert,
The water will stay good for 6 months if you keep it in a cool place of 50 degrees F or less and keep it completely dark. When I first started collecting water I made the mistake of leaving in my hot garage with window and didn’t cover my glass containers and I would see particles emerge and a green hue develop with in a month or two. Now I never have my water go bad. If you don’t have a cellar then a refrigerator is your best bet.
Would someone please describe the location of the spring in relation to the road? Can you drive right up to the spring, or do you have to park and hike into the woods, etc? Thanks!!!
This is outstanding water. If you can't make the drive, you can buy Noah's Water at Zanotto's Market. Yes, it is “bottled” but is full of natural minerals, especially magnesium, and tastes great.
Good tasting water; about 18 miles east of hwy 5; if anyone from the bay area is interested in carpooling here to get water please let me know thanks! ssearson@gmail.com
Hi! Sorry I’ve been out of the country. Someone mentioned in these comments that there’s another place for the public to fill up past where the commercial trucks fill. I’m attempting a trip tomorrow so I’m going to search the comments for that and then I’ll post whatever I find tomorrow 🙂
We’re trying to get a group of 5 or 6 folks willing to share costs of hiring/renting guy/truck to transport this water to SF East Bay Tri-Valley area monthly. Should cost about $2 per gallon for the transport which is lower than typical stored bought spring water. List here if you are interested to join the effort.
Also. It’s an open tapped spring with a faucet that turns it on or off… the untapped water streams into a nearby body of water. If filling up tanks i suggest bringing a clean hose which can be attached to the tap. This water is amazing….
There are two routes to get there the route via VASCO rd. Will take hella long… there’s a freeway exit about 10/15 minutes away from the other direction
I just called and the man (Paul Mason?) told me that the tap is only closed twice a year now, not weekly. That’s probably because he’s using UV filtration rather than mechanical filtration now. He also said that it’s well lit so that you can come at night.
One problem coming from the Patterson direction (I5) on weekdays is that you may have to deal with a large tanker truck on the tight turns. I almost got run off the road by one some years ago. Now I always honk when I’m coming around a blind turn.
BACK IN THE YEAR 2000 OR SO A FRIEND AND I DECIDED TO TAKE TRIP FROM GILROY TO EXPLORE THE LAND. THE TEMP THAT DAY WAS 100+ AND AFTER TAKING MINES ROAD ALL THE WAY UNTIL WE REACHED CIVILIZATION WE TURNED BACK TO TAKE THE LONG DRIVE BACK TO GILROY. WHEN WE CAME TO THE DEL PUERTO ROAD I DECIDED TO HEAD THAT WAY TO TAKE I-5 BECAUSE WE HAD RACKED UP OVER 120 MILES ON THE WAY THERE AND STILL HAD TO TRAVEL BACK HOME. WE DID NOT REALIZE HOW MUCH OPEN LAND THERE WAS OUT THERE AND HAD RUN OUT OF WATER. WE WERE VERY THIRSTY AND NOT KWOWING THE AREA I WAS STARTING TO WONDER IF WE HAD MADE A VERY BAD CHOICE ESPECIALLY SINCE WE WERE HEADING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION FROM HOME. HOT, LOST AND THIRSTY WE CAME ACROSS A TANKER TRUCK TURNING INTO A CLEARING OFF OF THE ROAD AND HOOKING UP A LINE. I DECIDED TO STOP AND ASK HIM HOW FAR UNTIL 1-5 AND WHY THE HECK WAS HE DRIVING THESE HUGE TANKS OUT HERE. THE MAN PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT THERE WAS A SPRING THERE AND THAT THE WATER HAD THE MOST MAGNESIUM CONTENT IN THE U.S.A AND THAT HE WAS HAULING THE WATER TO BE BOTTLED FOR NOAH WATER. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS NOT FILTERED AND WAS SAFE TO DRINK RIGHT OUT OF A LITTLE VALVE LOCATED THERE. WE FILLED OUR STOMACHS AND EMPTY WATER BOTTLES UP AND I CAN TELL YOU I HAVE NEVER TASTED WATER AS GOOD AS THAT STUFF. THE WATER GAVE US A BOOST OF ENERGY AND A FEELING THAT IT WAS LIKE MAGICAL OR SOMTHING. AFTER GIVING THE WATER WE BROUGHT HOME TO SOME PEOPLE THEY TOLD US THE SAME CALLING IT JESUS JUICE. AWESOME STUFF BEST WATER I HAVE EVER CONSUMED TO THIS DAY. I WANT TO THANK THE GUY RUNNING THAT PLACE. ITS NOT OFTEN TO FIND A PERSON COOL ENOUGH TO LET PEOPLE GO ON THEIR PROPERTY AND TAKE WATER. THANK YOU
I believe the water that you get here IS filtered. The weekly maintenance that is done is to back-flush the filters. Since reading about the water in the 2005 LEF magazine article, I’ve been traveling here from Sacramento once or twice a year to load up on this water, which is all I drink at home.
As Jake said, the location is quite a bit farther from the 5 than where Google Maps takes you. Luckily I wasn’t in a hurry and decided to just keep driving/exploring, and found it eventually. Had I read Jake’s post before making my drive, it would have been less of a mystery. lol
Water tastes great, better chilled, but still pretty good out of the tap. There was a foot long hose extender that was left there which made filling my bottles a lot easier. While I was there, a big truck was filling up at the commercial tap, and she got her truck filled in less time than I got my 18 gallons filled up. lol
Was a gorgeous drive on a really hot day. Saw lots of cows, a deer on the road by the campground, and lots of smaller wildlife. Will try to detour there to pick up water whenever I drive towards the Bay Area.
I started drinking this water & the first thing i notice … it taste like Alhambra Spring water? But a bit stronger… Not much of a big fan of Alhambra… So i drank it for 4 Days just so i can get all the benefits out of it & on the 3rd day got a headache! 4th day got really Dizzy & wile i was drinking it it wanted to come back up? …. I believe in Health 101% maybe its just to much for me.. I drank 1 quart of it a day ………..
FYI, drive 20 miles further than google maps location. You will drive through a camp ground and its about 2-3 miles further on the left. You will notice large tanks in the hills. The water is on a tap that is turned off/on, it does not flow constantly.
This is our main source of drinking water at home. Modesto (at least OUR well source) has a horrible chlorine tast – always. We also have nerve, muscle and joint issues, and Adobe Springs’ high magnesium content helps what ails us – including the benefit of more restful sleep. In our experience, NO OTHER WATER TASTES AS GOOD OR QUENTCHES OUR THIRST BETTER – THAN ADOBE SPRINGS WATER.
SIM, TDS seems to be related to palatability, not health. The TDS in this water is primarily from magnesite (magnesium sulfate), and most Americans are woefully lacking in magnesium. It has a slight, not bad, flavor, and my wife won’t drink it but I think it’s fine. You can’t boil the water, say for tea, because the magnesium precipitates out. I’ve been drinking it at home since 2005, and I’m 69 and doing fine. 🙂
Today I took the trip up Hamilton rd. to get me some fresh, natural spring water. I have a video at this link https://youtu.be/tBPHdhvCo2Y and please hit the like button. There is a 10″ green hose now attached to the valve to make filling those 5 gallon bottles easy. After reading in above past threads, I now know why the water flows so fast. To my understanding, this water is pumped from its source, ran through UV filters, and stored in either one large or a series of smaller storage tanks at higher ground. The water must be gravity fed to come out that strong. It tastes so good, and it is free from any particles. I will no longer be drinking tap or bottle water. I recommend using this water to make your soups and batters.
Is the water coming out of the earth on its own or is it pumped up? Because if it is coming out on its own then it wouldn’t matter if anyone was taking 1 gallon or hundreds it would be coming out anyway and spilling onto the ground. Anyone know?
It bubbles out of the earth on its own. where I used to live in the northeast there were springs all over and usually people filled up bottles from a pipe stuck into the side of a hill right near the road.
Ginny, it’s pumped up, not a natural spring, but the spigot is there for people to take as much as they want for personal use. I’ve been driving there from Sacramento (100 miles one way) once or twice a year since 2005. I bring about 30 3.5 gallon plastic cans, which typically lasts me just under a year.
The UN’s World Health Organization recommends that ALL drinking water on earth contain at least 25 mg of Magnesium per liter. This is the only water in California that does. Google:
CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM IN DRINKING WATER, page 80
The TDS for this site is almost at 500.. which is the “standard acceptable” limit, but that seems ridiculously high when most fresh spring water sites have tds concentrates 40-140?
Drinking pure spring water is one of the most important things we can do for our health. Our bodies are over 99% water at the molecular level, so water affects every aspect of our biology. Yet, not all water is created equal. Almost all the bottled spring water available is pasteurized for shelf stability, which neutralizes many of the powerful health benefits such as increased hydrogen, healthy probiotics, and crystalline structure. For more about why unprocessed spring water is the best water to drink, read this.
The best way to guarantee you are getting real unprocessed spring water is to collect it yourself. This is a short and simple guide filled with information about how to gather spring water. We will cover how to find a spring, how to collect the water, how to honor the spring, how to store the water properly and other tips.
FindASpring.org is the best resource for locating a spring near you. However, not all springs are on the map. First, check the map to see if there is a spring in your local area. If there is, look at the reviews and comments. Has anyone shared helpful information about flow rate or posted a water test result? Is the spring in a pristine area? Do a bit of research and make sure the spring is safe to drink from. If you have any doubt about the purity, don’t risk it and get a water test, HERE. If you don’t see a spring on the map in your area, there still might be some that aren’t listed yet. First, ask the older generation who have lived in your area a long time if they know. You can also ask people in your community who might already get spring water such as people at a health food store or at a farmers market. Another great option is to view A US forest service map, where many springs have been marked. You can view these maps through the Gaia GPS or All Trails hiking apps on your phone. The map overlay you want is USGS Topo. Not all are easily accessible or ideal for drinking, but some are and it can be a fun adventure to find them. We have found over half a dozen great springs this way.
Once you’ve found your spring, figure out how you are going to gather the water. Is it right on the side of the road and easy to access or do you have to hike to it? We recommend storing spring water in glass instead of plastic to preserve the purity of the water. It is better for the environment, your body, and the water. Even BPA free plastic has toxic chemicals that can leach into water and cause health issues. If you do want to use plastic for safety reasons when filling at the spring, we recommend transferring the water to glass as soon as possible. FindASpring is sponsored by Alive Waters, which offers beautiful reusable glass. They have a 2.5 gallon option, which is a convenient size for carrying that isn’t too heavy. They also sell handles that you can use to transport the jugs even more easily. If you have to hike to access the spring, we recommend putting the water jugs into an extra large backpack to hike the water out with ease. We use Osprey packs that hold 2 jugs each. You can also use a wheelbarrow or even a stroller depending on how easy a walk it is.
When you get to the spring, remember to first give back before you take. Springs are considered sacred in indigenous cultures around the world for their life giving water and also as a connection to the inner earth. A powerful and simple way to give back is to clean up. Is there any trash that needs to be collected? Could you move any dead leaves or sticks to improve the flow rate? Show up in service. Some other wonderful ways to give is with a moment of expressing verbal gratitude, singing songs to the water, offering the water an ethically sourced crystal, a feather, or some other physical gift. Flowers are a popular and beautiful thing to offer, but please be careful to source organic ones as most flowers from the store are sprayed with pesticides and can be toxic to put near a spring. Also, flowers can attract bugs as they decay, so it can be best to offer them to the flowing water directly or a little downstream from the spring head.
When gathering the water, fill the jug as close to the spring head as possible, never gather downstream. Be very careful as wet glass is extremely slippery. Make sure the lid is securely fastened. When transporting the spring water home, the jugs can sometimes slide around the car. Secure them in place or wrap them with towels or something so they don’t crash into each other.
How you store your spring water is essential. It is not pasteurized like spring water from the store, so it will start growing algae if left in direct sunlight. This is good because it means it’s alive! If the water you drink can’t even support the most basic life forms, how do you think it will support your body? Store your water in a cool, dark place such as a dark corner, pantry or closet. The fridge is ideal if you have room. Some people prefer to filter their water through a Berkey filter before drinking, but if the spring is pure, it’s not necessary. We drink our spring water completely unfiltered.
How long the water stays good for depends on how cold a temperature it’s stored at. Spring water is best fresh. We personally do not prefer to drink spring water past 2 weeks old. However, we know other people that will drink it at a month old. It’s great to get in a rhythm where you know how long the water lasts you and put your collection day on the calendar in advance.
I believe that water is calling us to reconnect with her in the deepest way, to gather our own water. Just like our ancestors did. Our ancestors didn’t have fancy water machines. They also didn’t create villages or settle where there was no water. Water was revered as the center of the community and the nodal point around which life could spiral out and take root.
Here’s to restoring the sacred connection with the waters of life.

I visited yesterday after a failed visit last month – the spring spigot was capped off. As you can see it’s back up with some improvements and a Patreon QR code for crowdfunding support for the public spring. Brand new hose, super sturdy, and a new platform and sign. Water delicious as ever!

Hello there, just went to this spring yesterday. It’s quite a drive going through and around the mountain. Very beautiful…quite a trip tho.
There’s a faucet right there, the place is pretty easy to spot, and the water tastes good to me (although I’m not an expert).
🙂

Would someone please describe the location of the spring in relation to the road? Can you drive right up to the spring, or do you have to park and hike into the woods, etc? Thanks!!!
you can drive right up to the spring and there is a water faucet there
This is outstanding water.
Drove in early evening today and the public spigot is capped off so no water 🙁 Wish I’d known about the other spigots but now I do!
Hi Kristin, Where are the other spigots that aren’t capped off? I was going to go up there but saw your comment. Hope you see this question soon. ?
Hi! Sorry I’ve been out of the country. Someone mentioned in these comments that there’s another place for the public to fill up past where the commercial trucks fill. I’m attempting a trip tomorrow so I’m going to search the comments for that and then I’ll post whatever I find tomorrow 🙂
Water tastes great. Address in the comments takes you right there. I would definitely go back again. Be prepared for very windy roads.
This spring is open 24/7 now, no more closures on Sundays. Enjoy!
Here is the actual location thanks to Google Maps:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Adobe+Springs/@37.408639,-121.4097256,17z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x8091cdb71a07a881:0x5dfc6e2dceb6645a!8m2!3d37.4084178!4d-121.4091791
Thanks for posting a link to an accurate map, Thomas. Hopefully findaspring.com will correct their map.
This would be if you were heading east and coming from the Junction.
Does anyone know if 437 TDS is too high for drinking regularly? Isn’t this high for a spring? Thanks!
Here’s a link to more info: https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-acceptable-TDS-level-of-drinking-water
Can someone tell me what’s wrong with UV filtration? Should I be going for the “construction” water?
There is nothing at all wrong with UV filtration. Ultra violet light kills lots of nasty stuff. It’s a good thing.
I’m very interested in driving to get spring water here. Is anyone carpooling from San Francisco or is there a closer Spring to SF?
Is the water coming out of the earth on its own or is it pumped up? Because if it is coming out on its own then it wouldn’t matter if anyone was taking 1 gallon or hundreds it would be coming out anyway and spilling onto the ground. Anyone know?
When i went it was coming out of the ground but there is a tap that turns on and off. The water is totally free anyone can get as much as they want

Maybe I’ll go to Stinson instead..
